Thus, having prepared the Aṣṭakavarga chart for the planets along with the ascendant, one should first perform the Trikona Shodhana (rectification of triangles) in all the zodiacal signs.
त्रिकोणं कथ्यते विप्र मेषसिंहधनूंष्यथ ।
वृषकन्यामृगस्याश्च युग्मतौलिघटास्तथा ॥२॥
वृषकन्यामृगस्याश्च युग्मतौलिघटास्तथा ॥२॥
2. trikoṇaṃ kathyate vipra meṣasiṃhadhanūṃṣyatha .
vṛṣakanyāmṛgasyāśca yugmataulighaṭāstathā.

O Brahmin, the trines are declared to be Aries, Leo, and Sagittarius. Likewise, Taurus, Virgo, and Capricorn, and Gemini, Libra, and Aquarius (are also trines).
कर्कवृश्चिकमीनाश्च त्रिकोणाः स्युः परस्परम् ।
अधोऽधः सर्वराशीनामष्टवर्गफलं न्यसेत् ॥३॥
अधोऽधः सर्वराशीनामष्टवर्गफलं न्यसेत् ॥३॥
3. karkavṛścikamīnāśca trikoṇāḥ syuḥ parasparam .
adho'dhaḥ sarvarāśīnāmaṣṭavargaphalaṃ nyaset.

Cancer, Scorpio, and Pisces are mutually trine signs. One should place the aṣṭavarga results below each of the signs (rāśi), one after another.
त्रिकोणेषु च यन्न्यूनं तत्तुल्यं त्रिषु शोधयेत् ।
एकस्मिन् भवने शून्यं तत् त्रिकोणं न शोधयेत् ॥४॥
एकस्मिन् भवने शून्यं तत् त्रिकोणं न शोधयेत् ॥४॥
4. trikoṇeṣu ca yannyūnaṃ tattulyaṃ triṣu śodhayet .
ekasmin bhavane śūnyaṃ tat trikoṇaṃ na śodhayet.

trikoṇeṣu ca yat nyūnam tat tulyam triṣu śodhayeḥ
| ekasmin bhavane śūnyam tat trikoṇam na śodhayeḥ

And whatever amount is deficient among the trines, that equivalent amount should be subtracted from all three (trine signs). If there is a zero in one house, that particular trine should not be subject to this subtraction (śodhana).
समत्वे सर्वगेहेषु सर्वं संशोधयेद् बुधः ।
पश्चात् विपश्चिता कार्यमेकाधिपतिशोधनम् ॥५॥

5. samatve sarvageheṣu sarvaṃ saṃśodhayed budhaḥ .

If there is equality (samatva) in all the houses, the wise person (budha) should subtract all. Afterwards, the expert should perform the reduction (śodhana) based on the single lord (ekādhipati).
