मार्कण्डेय-पुराणम्       mārkaṇḍeya-purāṇam - chapter-10, verse-75

नीयमानः स्वकं गेहं द्वादशाहं स पश्यति ।
उपभुङ्क्ते तथा दत्तं तोयपिण्डादिकं भुवि ॥७५॥
75. nīyamānaḥ svakaṃ gehaṃ dvādaśāhaṃ sa paśyati .
upabhuṅkte tathā dattaṃ toyapiṇḍādikaṃ bhuvi.

75. The departed soul, being led, sees its own house for twelve days. Similarly, it consumes the offerings, such as water and rice balls (piṇḍa), that are given and placed on the ground.
