मार्कण्डेय-पुराणम्       mārkaṇḍeya-purāṇam - chapter-10, verse-71

क्लिद्यमाने चिरतरं जन्तुर्दुःखमवाप्नुते ।
स्वेन कर्मविपाकेन देहान्तरगतोऽपि सन् ॥७१॥
71. klidyamāne cirataraṃ janturduḥkhamavāpnute .
svena karmavipākena dehāntaragato'pi san.

71. When the body is decomposing for a very long time, the being experiences suffering. This occurs even after having entered another body, due to the consequences (karma-vipāka) of its own actions (karma).
