महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-1, chapter-94, verse-9

ब्रह्म पर्यचरत्क्षत्रं विशः क्षत्रमनुव्रताः ।
ब्रह्मक्षत्रानुरक्ताश्च शूद्राः पर्यचरन्विशः ॥९॥
9. brahma paryacaratkṣatraṁ viśaḥ kṣatramanuvratāḥ ,
brahmakṣatrānuraktāśca śūdrāḥ paryacaranviśaḥ.
9. brahma paryacarat kṣatram viśaḥ kṣatram anuvratāḥ
brahmakṣatra anuraktāḥ ca śūdrāḥ paryacaran viśaḥ
9. Brahmins served the Kshatriyas. The Vaishyas were devoted to the Kshatriyas. And the Shudras, devoted to both Brahmins and Kshatriyas, served the Vaishyas.
