महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-1, chapter-94, verse-15

देवर्षिपितृयज्ञार्थमारभ्यन्त तदा क्रियाः ।
न चाधर्मेण केषांचित्प्राणिनामभवद्वधः ॥१५॥
15. devarṣipitṛyajñārthamārabhyanta tadā kriyāḥ ,
na cādharmeṇa keṣāṁcitprāṇināmabhavadvadhaḥ.
15. devarṣipitṛyagya artham ārabhyanta tadā kriyāḥ
na ca adharmeṇa keṣāṃcit prāṇinām abhavat vadhaḥ
15. At that time, rituals for yagyas offered to gods, rishis, and ancestors were performed. And no living being was killed unrighteously.
