महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-1, chapter-94, verse-52

वैशंपायन उवाच ।
नाकामयत तं दातुं वरं दाशाय शंतनुः ।
शरीरजेन तीव्रेण दह्यमानोऽपि भारत ॥५२॥
52. vaiśaṁpāyana uvāca ,
nākāmayata taṁ dātuṁ varaṁ dāśāya śaṁtanuḥ ,
śarīrajena tīvreṇa dahyamāno'pi bhārata.
52. vaiśaṃpāyanaḥ uvāca na akāmayata tam dātum varam dāśāya
śaṃtanuḥ śarīrajena tīvreṇa dahyamānaḥ api bhārata
52. Vaiśampāyana said: O Bhārata, even though Shantanu was tormented by intense physical desire, he did not wish to grant that condition to Dāśa.
