महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-1, chapter-94, verse-46

स गत्वा पितरं तस्या वरयामास तां तदा ।
पर्यपृच्छत्ततस्तस्याः पितरं चात्मकारणात् ॥४६॥
46. sa gatvā pitaraṁ tasyā varayāmāsa tāṁ tadā ,
paryapṛcchattatastasyāḥ pitaraṁ cātmakāraṇāt.
46. saḥ gatvā pitaram tasyāḥ varayāmāsa tām tadā
paryapṛcchat tataḥ tasyāḥ pitaram ca ātmakāraṇāt
46. So, he went to her father and then asked for her hand in marriage. Then, he questioned her father further for his own reasons.
