महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-7, chapter-114, verse-88

तमन्तरिक्षे नाराचं द्रौणिश्चिच्छेद पत्रिणा ।
धनंजयभयात्कर्णमुज्जिहीर्षुर्महारथः ॥८८॥
88. tamantarikṣe nārācaṁ drauṇiściccheda patriṇā ,
dhanaṁjayabhayātkarṇamujjihīrṣurmahārathaḥ.
88. tam antarikṣe nārācam drauṇiḥ ciccheda patriṇā
dhanaṃjaya-bhayāt karṇam uj-jihīrṣuḥ mahārathaḥ
88. mahārathaḥ drauṇiḥ dhanaṃjaya-bhayāt karṇam
uj-jihīrṣuḥ antarikṣe tam nārācam patriṇā ciccheda
88. Droṇi (Aśvatthāman), the great charioteer (mahāratha), desirous of saving Karṇa out of fear of Dhanaṃjaya (Arjuna), cut that arrow (nārāca) in mid-air with (his own) arrow (patriṇ).
