महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-12, chapter-221, verse-76

प्रयत्नेनापि चारक्षच्चित्तं पुत्रस्य वै पिता ।
व्यभजंश्चापि संरम्भाद्दुःखवासं तथावसन् ॥७६॥
76. prayatnenāpi cārakṣaccittaṁ putrasya vai pitā ,
vyabhajaṁścāpi saṁrambhādduḥkhavāsaṁ tathāvasan.
76. prayatnena api ca arakṣat cittam putrasya vai pitā |
vi abhajan ca api saṃrambhāt duḥkhavāsam tathā avasan
76. pitā vai prayatnena api putrasya cittam ca arakṣat ca
api saṃrambhāt vi abhajan tathā duḥkhavāsam avasan
76. The father, indeed, protected his son's mind even with great effort. Yet, due to their agitation, they also divided (their property) and consequently lived in misery.
