महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-12, chapter-221, verse-29

दानाध्ययनयज्ञेज्या गुरुदैवतपूजनम् ।
विप्राणामतिथीनां च तेषां नित्यमवर्तत ॥२९॥
29. dānādhyayanayajñejyā gurudaivatapūjanam ,
viprāṇāmatithīnāṁ ca teṣāṁ nityamavartata.

29. For them, there was always the practice of giving gifts (dāna), scriptural study, performing sacrificial rites (yajña) and other worship, and veneration of gurus and deities, as well as (service to) Brahmins and guests.
