महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-12, chapter-221, verse-42

पितृदेवातिथींश्चैव यथावत्तेऽभ्यपूजयन् ।
अवशेषाणि चाश्नन्ति नित्यं सत्यतपोरताः ॥४२॥
42. pitṛdevātithīṁścaiva yathāvatte'bhyapūjayan ,
avaśeṣāṇi cāśnanti nityaṁ satyataporatāḥ.

avaśeṣāṇi ca āśnanti nityam satyataporatāḥ
42. te yathāvat pitṛdevātithīn ca eva abhyapūjayan

42. Moreover, they duly worshipped their ancestors, the gods, and their guests. They always partook of the remnants, being consistently devoted to truth and spiritual austerity (tapas).
