महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-5, chapter-70, verse-49

युद्धे कृष्ण कलिर्नित्यं प्राणाः सीदन्ति संयुगे ।
बलं तु नीतिमात्राय हठे जयपराजयौ ॥४९॥
49. yuddhe kṛṣṇa kalirnityaṁ prāṇāḥ sīdanti saṁyuge ,
balaṁ tu nītimātrāya haṭhe jayaparājayau.

49. O Kṛṣṇa, in battle there is always strife (kali); lives are exhausted in conflict. While strength is indeed meant for mere policy, victory and defeat are ultimately decided by force.
