महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-5, chapter-70, verse-19

ह्रीर्हता बाधते धर्मं धर्मो हन्ति हतः श्रियम् ।
श्रीर्हता पुरुषं हन्ति पुरुषस्यास्वता वधः ॥१९॥
19. hrīrhatā bādhate dharmaṁ dharmo hanti hataḥ śriyam ,
śrīrhatā puruṣaṁ hanti puruṣasyāsvatā vadhaḥ.
19. hrīḥ hatā bādhate dharmam dharmaḥ hanti hataḥ śriyam
śrīḥ hatā puruṣam hanti puruṣasya asvatā vadhaḥ
19. The loss of shame impedes righteousness (dharma). Righteousness (dharma), when impeded, destroys prosperity. When prosperity is lost, it harms a person. For an individual (puruṣa), the lack of possessions is equivalent to destruction.
