महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-5, chapter-70, verse-39

ह्रीमानवति देवांश्च पितॄनात्मानमेव च ।
तेनामृतत्वं व्रजति सा काष्ठा पुण्यकर्मणाम् ॥३९॥
39. hrīmānavati devāṁśca pitṝnātmānameva ca ,
tenāmṛtatvaṁ vrajati sā kāṣṭhā puṇyakarmaṇām.

tena amṛtatvam vrajati sā kāṣṭhā puṇyakarmaṇām
39. A conscientious person protects the gods, the ancestors, and even his own self (ātman). Through this, he attains immortality, as that is the highest achievement of meritorious actions (karma).
