महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-1, chapter-90, verse-36

सुहोत्रः खल्विक्ष्वाकुकन्यामुपयेमे सुवर्णां नाम ।
तस्यामस्य जज्ञे हस्ती ।
य इदं हास्तिनपुरं मापयामास ।
एतदस्य हास्तिनपुरत्वम् ॥३६॥
36. suhotraḥ khalvikṣvākukanyāmupayeme suvarṇāṁ nāma ,
tasyāmasya jajñe hastī ,
ya idaṁ hāstinapuraṁ māpayāmāsa ,
etadasya hāstinapuratvam.
36. suhotraḥ khalu ikṣvākukanyām upayeme
suvarṇām nāma tasyām asya jajñe
hastī yaḥ idam hāstinapuram
māpayāmāsa etat asya hāstinapuratvam
36. Suhotra indeed married Suvarṇā, a princess of the Ikṣvāku dynasty. To him, from her, Hastī was born. It was he who founded this Hastinapura. This explains the name Hastinapura.
