योगवासिष्ठः yogavāsiṣṭhaḥ - book-6, chapter-81, verse-107

चिन्निष्क्रिया त्वनामा सा केवला नोपलभ्यते ।
आलोक इव दीपेन देहेनैवावगम्यते ॥ १०७ ॥

cinniṣkriyā tvanāmā sā kevalā nopalabhyate ,
āloka iva dīpena dehenaivāvagamyate 107

107. cit niṣkriyā tu anāmā sā kevalā na upalabhyate
| ālokaḥ iva dīpena dehena eva avagamyate ||

107. sā niṣkriyā anāmā kevalā cit na upalabhyate.
(sā cit) dīpena ālokaḥ iva dehena eva avagamyate.

107. Consciousness (cit), being inactive and nameless, is not perceived in its isolated, pure state. Rather, just as light is comprehended by means of a lamp, that consciousness is understood only through the body.
