महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-9, chapter-34, verse-33

जनमेजय उवाच ।
सारस्वतानां तीर्थानां गुणोत्पत्तिं वदस्व मे ।
फलं च द्विपदां श्रेष्ठ कर्मनिर्वृत्तिमेव च ॥३३॥
33. janamejaya uvāca ,
sārasvatānāṁ tīrthānāṁ guṇotpattiṁ vadasva me ,
phalaṁ ca dvipadāṁ śreṣṭha karmanirvṛttimeva ca.
33. janamejaya uvāca sārasvatānāṃ tīrthānāṃ guṇa utpattiṃ
vadasva me phalam ca dvipadām śreṣṭha karma nirvṛttim eva ca
33. dvipadām śreṣṭha me sārasvatānāṃ tīrthānāṃ guṇa utpattiṃ
phalam ca karma nirvṛttim eva ca vadasva janamejaya uvāca
33. Janamejaya said: "O best among bipeds, please describe to me the origin of the merits associated with the sacred places (tīrtha) of the Sarasvatī river, as well as the benefits derived from them, and the successful completion of rituals (karma)."
