महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-9, chapter-34, verse-59

ओषधीनां क्षये जाते प्राणिनामपि संक्षयः ।
कृशाश्चासन्प्रजाः सर्वाः क्षीयमाणे निशाकरे ॥५९॥
59. oṣadhīnāṁ kṣaye jāte prāṇināmapi saṁkṣayaḥ ,
kṛśāścāsanprajāḥ sarvāḥ kṣīyamāṇe niśākare.

59. When the plants (oṣadhi) began to diminish, there was also a complete decline of all living beings. All creatures became weak as the Moon god (niśākara) continued to wane.
