महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-9, chapter-34, verse-29

ततो महात्मा नियमे स्थितात्मा पुण्येषु तीर्थेषु वसूनि राजन् ।
ददौ द्विजेभ्यः क्रतुदक्षिणाश्च यदुप्रवीरो हलभृत्प्रतीतः ॥२९॥
29. tato mahātmā niyame sthitātmā; puṇyeṣu tīrtheṣu vasūni rājan ,
dadau dvijebhyaḥ kratudakṣiṇāśca; yadupravīro halabhṛtpratītaḥ.

29. Then, O King, the great-souled one, Balarama (halabhṛt), the chief among the Yadus, renowned and steadfast in self-restraint (niyama), gave abundant wealth and sacrificial fees to the brahmins at various sacred pilgrimage sites.
