महाभारतः mahābhārataḥ - book-12, chapter-112, verse-4

स त्वायुषि परिक्षीणे जगामानीप्सितां गतिम् ।
गोमायुत्वं च संप्राप्तो दूषितः पूर्वकर्मणा ॥४॥

4. sa tvāyuṣi parikṣīṇe jagāmānīpsitāṁ gatim ,
gomāyutvaṁ ca saṁprāpto dūṣitaḥ pūrvakarmaṇā.

4. But when his life was exhausted, he went to an undesirable state, and, tainted by his previous actions (karma), he attained the condition of a jackal.
