tataḥ sainyena rajasā vṛte sati ghoram tamaḥ abhavat.
rājan ariṃdaman! rajasā saṃvṛte sati tasmāt deśāt apākramataḥ tān aśvān ca manuṣyān adrākṣam.

Then, a terrible darkness enveloped everything as the army was covered in dust. O King (rājan), subduer of enemies (ariṃdaman), I saw horses and men retreating from that place, with the entire area obscured by the dust.
