महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-7, chapter-134, verse-40

तं कर्णः शरजालेन छादयामास मारिष ।
विव्याध च सुसंक्रुद्धः शरैस्त्रिभिरजिह्मगैः ॥४०॥
40. taṁ karṇaḥ śarajālena chādayāmāsa māriṣa ,
vivyādha ca susaṁkruddhaḥ śaraistribhirajihmagaiḥ.

40. O respected one, Karna, greatly enraged, enveloped him (Arjuna) with a volley of arrows and also pierced him with three straight-flying arrows.
