महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-13, chapter-84, verse-79

ततःप्रभृति चाप्येतज्जातरूपमुदाहृतम् ।
यत्सुवर्णं स भगवानग्निरीशः प्रजापतिः ॥७९॥
79. tataḥprabhṛti cāpyetajjātarūpamudāhṛtam ,
yatsuvarṇaṁ sa bhagavānagnirīśaḥ prajāpatiḥ.
79. tataḥ prabhṛti ca api etat jātarūpam udāhṛtam
yat suvarṇam sa bhagavān agniḥ īśaḥ prajāpatiḥ
79. etat jātarūpam ca api tataḥ prabhṛti udāhṛtam,
yat suvarṇam sa bhagavān agniḥ īśaḥ prajāpatiḥ
79. From that time onwards, this 'jātarūpa' (gold) has been so named, because gold is verily the illustrious Agni, the Lord, the prajāpati (lord of creation).
