मार्कण्डेय-पुराणम्       mārkaṇḍeya-purāṇam - chapter-15, verse-56

राजोवाच ।
न स्वर्गे ब्रह्मलोके वा तत् सुखं प्राप्यते नरैः ।
यदार्तजन्तुनिर्वाण-दानोत्थमिति मे मतिः ॥५६॥
56. rājovāca .
na svarge brahmaloke vā tat sukhaṃ prāpyate naraiḥ .
yadārtajantunirvāṇa-dānotthamiti me matiḥ.
56. rājā uvāca na svarge brahmaloke vā tat sukham prāpyate
naraiḥ yat ārta-jantu-nirvāṇa-dāna-uttham iti me matiḥ
56. The king said: 'That happiness which arises from the giving (dāna) of relief (nirvāṇa) to distressed creatures is not attained by people either in heaven or in the realm of Brahmā (Brahmaloka). This is my conviction.'
