मार्कण्डेय-पुराणम्       mārkaṇḍeya-purāṇam - chapter-15, verse-33

तृण-गुल्म-लता-वल्लि-त्वक्सारतरुतां क्रमात् ।
प्राप्य क्षीणाल्पपापस्तु नरो भवति वै ततः ॥३३॥
33. tṛṇa-gulma-latā-valli-tvaksāratarutāṃ kramāt .
prāpya kṣīṇālpapāpastu naro bhavati vai tataḥ.
33. tṛṇa gulma latā valli tvaksāratarutām kramāt
prāpya kṣīṇa alpa pāpaḥ tu naraḥ bhavati vai tataḥ
33. Then, having successively attained the state of grass, shrubs, creepers, vines, and trees whose essence is bark, a person, with his minor sins (pāpa) exhausted, indeed becomes a human thereafter.
