When a cotton garment (kārpāsika) is stolen, one becomes a curlew (krauñca). The thief of bark-cloth (vālka) becomes a crane (baka). Similarly, having stolen pigments (varṇaka), one becomes a peacock (mayūra); and [having stolen] vegetable leaves (śākapatra), one is reborn.
