O King, even a very powerful person (subalavān api) wages war (yuddhaṃ kurute) with courage (sattvena). It is not by mere exertion (udyāmena) or sacrificial offerings (hotrābhiḥ) that one makes all subjects (sarvāḥ prajāḥ) one's own (svīkurute).
