महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-2, chapter-61, verse-71

अनेना भवति श्रेष्ठो मुच्यन्ते च सभासदः ।
एनो गच्छति कर्तारं निन्दार्हो यत्र निन्द्यते ॥७१॥
71. anenā bhavati śreṣṭho mucyante ca sabhāsadaḥ ,
eno gacchati kartāraṁ nindārho yatra nindyate.

71. When the condemnable one is condemned, the chief (judge) becomes faultless, and the assembly members are released (from any fault). The sin then goes to the perpetrator (of the original wrongdoing).
