महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-13, chapter-95, verse-27

वसिष्ठ उवाच ।
वसिष्ठोऽस्मि वरिष्ठोऽस्मि वसे वासं गृहेष्वपि ।
वरिष्ठत्वाच्च वासाच्च वसिष्ठ इति विद्धि माम् ॥२७॥
27. vasiṣṭha uvāca ,
vasiṣṭho'smi variṣṭho'smi vase vāsaṁ gṛheṣvapi ,
variṣṭhatvācca vāsācca vasiṣṭha iti viddhi mām.
27. vasiṣṭhaḥ uvāca | vasiṣṭhaḥ asmi
variṣṭhaḥ asmi vase vāsam
gṛheṣu api | variṣṭhatvāt ca
vāsāt ca vasiṣṭhaḥ iti viddhi mām
27. Vasiṣṭha said: "I am Vasiṣṭha, I am the most excellent (variṣṭha). I reside, making my dwelling even in homes. Therefore, know me as Vasiṣṭha because of my preeminence and my pervasive dwelling."
