मार्कण्डेय-पुराणम्       mārkaṇḍeya-purāṇam - chapter-106, verse-46

वनवासविनिर्बन्धं नोपसंहरते यदा ।
क्षमिष्यत्यन्तको नेति ददौ स च तदोत्तरम् ॥४६॥
46. vanavāsavinirbandhaṃ nopasaṃharate yadā .
kṣamiṣyatyantako neti dadau sa ca tadottaram.
46. vanavāsavinirbandham na upasaṃharate yadā
kṣamiṣyati antakaḥ na iti dadau sa ca tadā uttaram
46. When he would not abandon his firm resolve to dwell in the forest (vanavāsa), he then gave this answer: "Death (antaka) will not forgive (me if I fail in my duty)."
