मार्कण्डेय उवाच ।
श्रूयतामादिदेवस्य माहात्म्यं कथयामि ते ।
विवस्वतो यच्चकार पूर्वमाराधितो जनैः ॥३॥

3. mārkaṇḍeya uvāca .
śrūyatāmādidevasya māhātmyaṃ kathayāmi te .
vivasvato yaccakāra pūrvamārādhito janaiḥ.

Mārkaṇḍeya said: "Listen! I will narrate to you the greatness of the primeval deity, which Vivasvat (the Sun) performed earlier, worshipped by people."
