साधु पृष्टं त्वया विप्र जनानां च हितेच्छया ।
कथयाम्यायुषो ज्ञानं दुर्ज्ञेयं यत् सुरैरपि ॥२॥

kathayāmyāyuṣo jñānaṃ durjñeyaṃ yat surairapi.

O Brahmin, you have asked well, and with a desire for the welfare of people. I will now explain the knowledge concerning lifespan, which is difficult to comprehend even for the gods.
