ततः स गत्वा युयुधे मुसलेनासुरेश्वरः ।
व्यर्था मुशलपातास्ते संजग्मुस्तेषु शत्रुषु ॥५३॥

Then, having advanced, that lord of asuras fought with a mace. However, those mace-blows were ineffective; they merely struck his enemies.
