महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-6, chapter-102, verse-72

प्राणांश्चादत्त योधानां पिता देवव्रतस्तव ।
गभस्तिभिरिवादित्यस्तेजांसि शिशिरात्यये ॥७२॥
72. prāṇāṁścādatta yodhānāṁ pitā devavratastava ,
gabhastibhirivādityastejāṁsi śiśirātyaye.
72. prāṇān ca ādatta yodhānām pitā devavrataḥ tava
gabhastibhiḥ iva ādityaḥ tejāṃsi śiśirātyaye
72. tava pitā devavrataḥ ca yodhānām prāṇān ādatta
yathā ādityaḥ śiśirātyaye gabhastibhiḥ iva tejāṃsi
72. Your father, Devavrata (Bhishma), also took away the lives (prāṇāḥ) of the warriors, just as the sun (āditya) draws out the vital energies (tejāṃsi) with its rays (gabhasti) at the end of winter (śiśirātyaya).
