महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-8, chapter-26, verse-55

कल्याणवृत्तः सततं हि राजन्वैचित्रवीर्यस्य सुतो ममासीत् ।
तस्यार्थसिद्ध्यर्थमहं त्यजामि प्रियान्भोगान्दुस्त्यजं जीवितं च ॥५५॥
55. kalyāṇavṛttaḥ satataṁ hi rāja;nvaicitravīryasya suto mamāsīt ,
tasyārthasiddhyarthamahaṁ tyajāmi; priyānbhogāndustyajaṁ jīvitaṁ ca.

vaicitravīryasya sutaḥ mama āsīt
tasya arthasiddhyartham aham tyajāmi
priyān bhogān dustyajam jīvitam ca

55. Indeed, O King, the son of Vicitravīrya, who always conducted himself virtuously, was (like) my own. Therefore, for the attainment of his goal, I abandon dear pleasures and even my life, which is difficult to give up.
