For Mars (bhūmija), the calculation (karaṇam) of strength is as follows: it receives five points when in the Hora (ascendant or its division) and four points when in the eighth house (mṛtyu). It gets three points when in the third house (vikrame) and tenth house (khe). It receives two points when in the sixth house (kṣate). However, when in the first house (bhave) of the Rashi chart itself, it should be zero points.
