मनु-स्मृतिः       manu-smṛtiḥ - chapter-1, verse-14

उद्बबर्हात्मनश्चैव मनः सदसदात्मकम ।
मनसश्चाप्यहङ्कारमभिमन्तारमीश्वरम ॥१४॥
14. udbabarhātmanaścaiva manaḥ sadasadātmakam ,
manasaścāpyahaṅkāramabhimantāramīśvaram.
14. उद्बबर्ह आत्मनः च एव मनः सदसदात्मकम मनसः
च अपि अहङ्कारम् अभिमन्तारम् ईश्वरम्
14. सः आत्मनः च एव सदसदात्मकम मनः उद्बबर्ह मनसः च
अपि अभिमन्तारम् ईश्वरम् अहङ्कारम् [उद्बबर्ह]
14. From himself (ātman), he also brought forth the mind (manas), which is characterized by both existence and non-existence. From this mind, he then manifested ego (ahaṅkāra), which acts as the conceiver and controller (īśvara).
