महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-8, chapter-45, verse-9

ततोऽर्जुनो हयान्हत्वा सर्वांस्तस्य महात्मनः ।
चकार समरे भूमिं शोणितौघतरङ्गिणीम् ॥९॥
9. tato'rjuno hayānhatvā sarvāṁstasya mahātmanaḥ ,
cakāra samare bhūmiṁ śoṇitaughataraṅgiṇīm.

cakāra samare bhūmim śoṇitaughataraṅgiṇīm

9. Then Arjuna, after killing all the horses of that great-souled (mahātman) Aśvatthāmā, transformed the battlefield into a river surging with torrents of blood.
