महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-13, chapter-116, verse-64

मांसं तु कौमुदं पक्षं वर्जितं पार्थ राजभिः ।
सर्वभूतात्मभूतैस्तैर्विज्ञातार्थपरावरैः ॥६४॥
64. māṁsaṁ tu kaumudaṁ pakṣaṁ varjitaṁ pārtha rājabhiḥ ,
sarvabhūtātmabhūtaistairvijñātārthaparāvaraiḥ.
64. māṃsam tu kaumudam pakṣam varjitam pārtha rājabhiḥ
sarvabhūtātmabhūtaiḥ taiḥ vijñātārthaparāvaraiḥ
64. Indeed, O Pārtha, meat during the Kāumuda (Kārtika) fortnight was avoided by those kings, who had become the self of all beings and who fully comprehended the higher and lower truths.
