महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-13, chapter-116, verse-41

हिरण्यदानैर्गोदानैर्भूमिदानैश्च सर्वशः ।
मांसस्याभक्षणे धर्मो विशिष्टः स्यादिति श्रुतिः ॥४१॥
41. hiraṇyadānairgodānairbhūmidānaiśca sarvaśaḥ ,
māṁsasyābhakṣaṇe dharmo viśiṣṭaḥ syāditi śrutiḥ.

41. The righteousness (dharma) achieved by abstaining from meat is superior in all respects to gifts of gold, gifts of cows, and gifts of land—thus says the sacred tradition (śruti).
