महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-1, chapter-68, verse-46

एतस्मात्कारणाद्राजन्पाणिग्रहणमिष्यते ।
यदाप्नोति पतिर्भार्यामिह लोके परत्र च ॥४६॥
46. etasmātkāraṇādrājanpāṇigrahaṇamiṣyate ,
yadāpnoti patirbhāryāmiha loke paratra ca.
46. etasmāt kāraṇāt rājan pāṇigrahaṇam iṣyate
yat āpnoti patiḥ bhāryām iha loke paratra ca
46. For this reason, O King, marriage (literally 'taking of the hand') is desired and performed, because a husband obtains his wife's companionship in this world and in the next.
