किं व्यर्थमेतदर्थं हि मूढोऽयं क्लेशभाजनम् ।
यथा चित्रमये पुंसि क्षते क्षीणे न तत्क्षतिः ॥ २२ ॥

22. Why indeed is this [body] a useless pursuit? This deluded individual is merely a vessel for affliction. Just as when a painted person (puruṣa) is scratched or fades, there is no actual damage to the [real] person it depicts.
