दुर्गा-सप्तशती       durgā-saptaśatī - chapter-1, verse-68

ऋषिरुवाच ।
एवं स्तुता तदा देवी तामसी तत्र वेधसा ।
विष्णोः प्रबोधनार्थाय निहन्तुं मधुकैटभौ ॥६८॥
68. ṛṣiruvāca .
evaṃ stutā tadā devī tāmasī tatra vedhasā .
viṣṇoḥ prabodhanārthāya nihantuṃ madhukaiṭabhau.
68. ṛṣiḥ uvāca evam stutā tadā devī tāmasī tatra vedhasā
viṣṇoḥ prabodhanārthāya nihantuṃ madhukaiṭabhau
68. The sage said: Thus, the Tamasi (tāmasī) aspect of the Goddess (devi) was then praised by Brahmā (vedhasā) there for the purpose of awakening Vishnu and slaying Madhu and Kaiṭabha.
