मार्कण्डेय-पुराणम्       mārkaṇḍeya-purāṇam - chapter-69, verse-35

ब्राह्मण उवाच ।
रक्ष्या भार्या महीपाल इति च श्रुतिरुत्तमा ।
भार्यायां रक्ष्यमाणायां प्रजा भवति रक्षिता ॥३५॥
35. brāhmaṇa uvāca .
rakṣyā bhāryā mahīpāla iti ca śrutiruttamā .
bhāryāyāṃ rakṣyamāṇāyāṃ prajā bhavati rakṣitā.
35. brāhmaṇa uvāca rakṣyā bhāryā mahīpāla iti ca śrutiḥ
uttamā bhāryāyām rakṣyamāṇāyām prajā bhavati rakṣitā
35. The Brahmin said: 'O King, a wife should be protected; this is an excellent scriptural injunction (śruti). When the wife is protected, the progeny (prajā) is also protected.'
