योगवासिष्ठः       yogavāsiṣṭhaḥ - book-3, chapter-4, verse-41

मध्ये यदेतदर्थस्य प्रतिभानं प्रथां गतम् ।
सतो वाप्यसतो वापि तन्मनो विद्धि नेतरत् ॥ ४१ ॥
madhye yadetadarthasya pratibhānaṃ prathāṃ gatam ,
sato vāpyasato vāpi tanmano viddhi netarat 41
41. madhye yat etat arthasya pratibhānam prathām gatam
sataḥ vā api asataḥ vā api tat manaḥ viddhi na itarat
41. yat etat arthasya pratibhānam sataḥ vā api asataḥ vā
api madhye prathām gatam tat manaḥ viddhi na itarat
41. Know that whatever appearance (pratibhāna) of an object, whether existing or non-existing, that has manifested in between [the subject and object], is the mind (manas), and nothing else.
