वाल्मीकि-रामायणम्       vālmīki-rāmāyaṇam - book-6, chapter-61, verse-22

तस्मिञ्जीवति वीरे तु हतमप्यहतं बलम् ।
हनूमत्युज्झितप्राणे जीवन्तो ऽपि वयं हताः ॥२२॥
22. tasmiñjīvati vīre tu hatamapyahataṃ balam ,
hanūmatyujjhitaprāṇe jīvanto'pi vayaṃ hatāḥ.
22. tasmin jīvati vīre tu hatam api ahatam balam
hanūmati ujjhitaprāṇe jīvantaḥ api vayam hatāḥ
22. Indeed, as long as that hero (Hanuman) remains alive, an army that is defeated is still considered undefeated. But if Hanuman were to lose his life, then even we, though still alive, would be as good as dead.
