वाल्मीकि-रामायणम्       vālmīki-rāmāyaṇam - book-5, chapter-56, verse-127

सुमहत्यपराधे ऽपि दूतस्यातुलविक्रमः ।
विरूपकरणं दृष्टं न वधो ऽस्तीह शास्त्रतः ॥१२७॥
127. sumahatyaparādhe'pi dūtasyātulavikramaḥ ,
virūpakaraṇaṃ dṛṣṭaṃ na vadho'stīha śāstrataḥ.
127. sumahati aparādhe api dūtasya atulavikramaḥ
virūpakaraṇam dṛṣṭam na vadhaḥ asti iha śāstrataḥ
127. atulavikramaḥ sumahati aparādhe api dūtasya

127. O you of incomparable might, even for a very great offense, the disfigurement of an envoy is sanctioned. However, according to the sacred texts (dharmaśāstra), killing is not prescribed here.
