मार्कण्डेय-पुराणम्       mārkaṇḍeya-purāṇam - chapter-96, verse-10

आपीड्यमानो द्वन्द्वैश्च स भूतिर्मुनिसत्तमः ।
अनवाप्याभिलाषं तं तपसः सन्यवर्त्तत ॥१०॥
10. āpīḍyamāno dvandvaiśca sa bhūtirmunisattamaḥ .
anavāpyābhilāṣaṃ taṃ tapasaḥ sanyavarttata.
10. āpīḍyamānaḥ dvandvaiḥ ca saḥ bhūtiḥ munisattamaḥ
anavāpya abhilāṣam tam tapasaḥ sanyavarttata
10. Afflicted by the dualities (dvandva), that excellent sage Bhūti, not having attained his desire, withdrew from his asceticism (tapas).
