महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-13, chapter-85, verse-17

मरीचिभ्यो मरीचिस्तु मारीचः कश्यपो ह्यभूत् ।
अङ्गारेभ्योऽङ्गिरास्तात वालखिल्याः शिलोच्चयात् ।
अत्रैवात्रेति च विभो जातमत्रिं वदन्त्यपि ॥१७॥
17. marīcibhyo marīcistu mārīcaḥ kaśyapo hyabhūt ,
aṅgārebhyo'ṅgirāstāta vālakhilyāḥ śiloccayāt ,
atraivātreti ca vibho jātamatriṁ vadantyapi.

17. But the sage (muni) Marīci (sprang) from rays of light (marīci), and Kaśyapa, the descendant of Marīci (mārīca), came into being. O dear one, the Aṅgirās (sprang) from the embers, and the Vālakhilyas from a heap of stones. And regarding the sage (muni) Atri, O lord, they also say that he was born right here, thus named 'Atri'.
