महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-13, chapter-85, verse-44

वरुणश्चादितो विप्र जग्राह प्रभुरीश्वरः ।
कविं तात भृगुं चैव तस्मात्तौ वारुणौ स्मृतौ ॥४४॥
44. varuṇaścādito vipra jagrāha prabhurīśvaraḥ ,
kaviṁ tāta bhṛguṁ caiva tasmāttau vāruṇau smṛtau.
44. varuṇaḥ ca āditaḥ vipra jagrāha prabhuḥ īśvaraḥ
kavim tāta bhṛgum ca eva tasmāt tau vāruṇau smṛtau
44. O Brahmin, Varuṇa, the mighty lord and controller who is an Āditya, indeed accepted Kavi and Bhṛgu, my dear. Therefore, these two are remembered as Vāruṇas (sons of Varuṇa).
